Saltoun | Police

There is no resident police presence in the parish in 2000. Occasional police cars tour the area from time to time and a community policeman has responsibility for liaison, and can provide advice on security. Many properties have their own security alarm systems. False alarms from cars and home security systems are common and reduce the effectiveness of these as a deterrent.

A resident policeman lived in the police house in East Saltoun until 1957. The house was then let and later sold to Hamilton Farming Enterprises, and renamed as Fountain Cottage.

There is no evidence of an increase in crime, although the fear of crime has increased. Most crimes are of a relatively minor nature, such as vandalism, car crime and housebreaking. The post office was robbed in 1985. A Neighbourhood Watch group exists in West Saltoun.
