Part of the site identified for future housing development along Mid Road, ie the section opposite the entrance to the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, has recently been found to include an area which was probably the site of a Roman camp or farm. No further information is available as yet, though the site is currently being investigated by Historic Scotland.
