Miscellany

The Bolton hearse, built in 1783, remains on permanent loan to the Museum of Scotland. This hearse, believed to be the oldest surviving road vehicle in Scotland, conveyed the 10th Lord Blantyre from Bath to Bolton and also conveyed Robert Burns’ mother, his brother Gilbert and sister Annabella to their resting place in Bolton Kirkyard. A description of the hearse is given on the church website.
