In 2000, healthcare was provided through the medical centre at Dunbar, which has several specialist clinics and the services of three separate medical practices, district and practice nurses and a physiotherapist. Ambulances for emergencies come from depots at Chirnside or Haddington.
Home helps and such were provided through the local authority service.
Mrs Yule had trained to be a nursery nurse and after marrying and retiring from farm work, she decided to foster a ‘difficult’ child placed by Edinburgh Social Services. It was the child’s third home but her behaviour was so extreme that she was eventually returned, this time to an Aberdeen ‘corrective school’. A local farmworker also fostered for a short period.
