These churches were usually, but not always, until 1979, appointments for young men ‘on probation’ at the beginning of their ministry.
Until 1979, Dunbar was in the Edinburgh Circuit and Tranent and Cockenzie in the Leith Circuit. For six years Michael Hill, studying for PhD, had charge of Dunbar, and Kenneth Holman, then an Active Supernumerary, of Tranent and Cockenzie.
After that, one minister has had the charge of the three churches.
