The Fourth Statistical Account of East Lothian

Healthcare

In 2000, healthcare was provided through the medical centre at Dunbar, which has several specialist clinics and the services of three separate medical practices, district and practice nurses and a physiotherapist. Ambulances for emergencies come from depots at Chirnside or Haddington.

Home helps and such were provided through the local authority service.

Mrs Yule had trained to be a nursery nurse and after marrying and retiring from farm work, she decided to foster a 'difficult' child placed by Edinburgh Social Services. It was the child's third home but her behaviour was so extreme that she was eventually returned, this time to an Aberdeen 'corrective school'. A local farmworker also fostered for a short period.
